Bush Mechanics
Anne Ooms and Claire Barclay
10th February - 18 March 2000
Bush Mechanics, Catalyst Arts first show of 2000 presents a new collaborative work from Claire Barclay and Anne Ooms. Claire Barclay's sculptural works reflect ideas of the natural, 'the wild' and ecology in its romanticised and commodified forms. The commercialisation of new age or eco - lifestyles in the UK and Australia are points of reference in her works. Anne Ooms works with video installations, books and texts. These reference memory and place, the imagined and real; conjuring mental landscapes of the country she is from. Bush Mechanics is a collaborative work, Claire from Glasgow, Scotland and Anne from Sydney, Australia both share the experience of having lived in each other's countries for an extensive period of time. The exhibition signifies a working process developed by Anne and Claire through correspondence of text, image and video. Welcome to thoughts of Dream Catchers, The Barrier Reef, Heron Island, The Bush, Birds, Words and The Tortoise
