Artist Led Archive
5th - 26th April 2008
The project was conceived by artist and curatoe Megs Morley in response to a practical and conceptual enquiry into artist led culture in Ireland. The archive initiates debate and critical thinking into the sometimes contested ‘histories’ of artist-led organisations, celebrating the work of past initiatives and exposing the roots of some of our oldest cultural vehicles. In doing so, it creates a resource tool and context for future iniaitives.
Catalyst Arts’ hosting of the archive is preceeded by an intensive and ongoing interrogation of it’s own archive, some outcomes of which will be on show for the duration of the exhibition. A focus will be the specially commissioned new work from Catalyst’s artist in residence, Duncan Ross. His highly subjective and discriminatory study of Catalyst’s archive will be described in a wall based mind map and a video montage culled from multi media remnants.
Saturday 5th: Opening discussion from 3-5pm. Opening reception from 7pm with live art from Anthony Kelly and David Stalling
Thursday 24th and Friday 25th: Screenings os a selection of rare artist films from the archive from 7pm
