And Now I See Darkness
21 January - 10 February 2011
Featured artists:
Shaun Caton
Shaun has been performing for over 20years and is highly regarded worldwide. Following the 8 hour durational performance on Saturday in the gallery, the detritus will be on display inside the gallery.
Dennis O'Keeffe
Using various forms of feedback and electrical intervention he is attemping to develop an individual language of visual distortion. This process based work can add new layers of meaning to source material, or act alone as a generative source of visual content, describing chaos focussed through the electrically structured inner workings of found t.v’s.
JustOverSeven Collective - Christopher Burns, Anne-Marie Taggart, David Mahon, Stuart Calvin, Jayne Connolly, Janice Steadman
“IT IS THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 2012.
AS A MEASURE OF AUSTERITY THE FUNDING FOR ALL FORMS OF SELF-EXPRESSION HAS BEEN CUT. ARTISTS ARE DEEMED DEGENERATES AND HAVE BEEN FORCED UNDERGROUND.
A RESISTANCE EXISTS. JustOverSeven ALLOWS YOU TO PEER INTO THE REFUGE OF ONE OF IRELAND’S LAST ARTISTS – HIS SHELTER, HIS STUDIO, HIS GALLERY & HIS HOME.”
In a time when it seems harder than ever to forge a career as an artist and at a time of great uncertainty for the arts as funding is being dramatically cut they present a tongue-in-cheek response. Taking the title of the show quite literally they exaggerate the darkness of the unknown as it sweeps over them and create a ‘what if’ view of the world.
***Please note, the gallery will be immersed in complete darkness, lit only by UV lighting***
